Retail sales in Mexico shrank by 1.5% from the previous year in September 2024, following a 0.8% fall in the prior month and compared with market forecasts of a 1.2% decrease. It was the fifth consecutive month of declines in Mexican retail sales and stronger than in August. Sales fell primarily for hardware, plumbing, and glass items (-6.4%); stationery, recreational items, and other personal use items (-5.4%); healthcare products (-4.7%) and motor vehicles, parts, fuel, and lubricants (-3.1%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales trade edged up by 0.1% in September, the same pace as in August and matching market estimates.
