Brazil posted a current account deficit of $8.8 billion in February 2025, up from $3.9 billion in the same month last year, but smaller than the expected $9.1 billion shortfall. The trade balance shifted to a deficit of nearly $1 billion, compared to a surplus of $4.4 billion in February 2024, as imports jumped by 25.7% while exports fell by 1.8%. At the same time, the services gap rose marginally to $3.9 billion from $3.8 billion, and the primary income shortfall shrank to $4.1 billion from $4.6 billion and the secondary income surplus showed minimal change at $0.2 billion.
