China on Tuesday unveiled a series of measures aimed at boosting services consumption, pledging to further open sectors such as the internet and culture, and to promote the hosting of international sports events in a bid to support its slowing economy. The measures, jointly released by nine government agencies — including the Commerce Ministry, Finance Ministry, and the central bank — also aim to attract more foreign and private capital to sectors such as mid- to high-end medical care, according to Reuters. China will use central government funds and local special bonds to support the construction of cultural, tourism, elderly care, childcare, and sports facilities, the agencies said. In addition, monetary policy tools will be deployed to encourage financial institutions to expand credit supply for service consumption and increase lending to businesses in the sector.
