China has rolled out a new initiative to stabilize foreign investment by expanding market access and promoting investment opportunities. This plan, announced by the General Office of the State Council on February, 19, includes several key measures such as encouraging foreign companies to invest in China's equity market and guiding high-quality foreign capital toward long-term investments in publicly listed companies. The framework aims to make it easier for foreign firms to invest, allowing them to use domestic loans for equity investment, encouraging multinational firms to build investment companies, and simplifying mergers and acquisitions. Beijing will also expand pilot programs in sectors such as telecommunications, healthcare, and education while ensuring that foreign businesses in unrestricted sectors are treated the same as domestic firms. This latest move comes amid a 27.1% plunge in foreign direct investment into China in 2024, the steepest drop since records began in 2008.
