The DAX in Frankfurt was trading 0.4% lower around 24,180 on Thursday afternoon, despite the positive news on the tariff front. The European Commission said the EU and US have agreed on a joint statement after the July 27 deal, imposing a maximum tariff of 15% on most EU exports, including strategic sectors like autos, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and metals. Traders also weighed a batch of PMI data from European economies, which underscored resilience amid US tariffs and global uncertainties. Germany’s private sector activity picked up slightly in August from the previous month, supported by better-than-expected manufacturing performance. Meanwhile, market participants braced for the Fed's annual symposium in Jackson Hole, where economists and central bankers are expected to deliver insights into the future of interest rates. Beiersdorf and Heidelberg Materials led the losses, down 2.4% and 2%, respectively. BMW, Porsche and Merck saw declines around 1%.
