In the longer run, downward momentum has largely faded; USD is expected to trade in a range between 146.50 and 149.50, UOB Group's FX analysts Quek Ser Leang and Peter Chia note.

Ueda stated that higher bond yields reflect market expectations for future rate hikes, signaling the BOJ’s openness to further policy adjustments. Meanwhile, Japanese firms agreed to substantial wage hikes for the third consecutive year during annual spring labor negotiations, aiming to help workers manage inflation and address labor shortages. The pay increases are expected to boost consumer spending, fueling inflation and providing the central bank with more room for future rate hikes. In corporate news, Nissan Motor gained 0.6% after announcing that CEO Makoto Uchida will step down on April 1. While merger talks between Nissan and Honda had previously stalled, reports suggest Honda remains open to resuming discussions following Uchida’s departure.
