Retail trade growth in Portugal slowed to 4.0% year-on-year in March 2025, down from a downwardly revised 4.5% in February, mainly due to a softer increase in non-food sales (2.3% vs 3.6%). Within the non-food category, sales growth decelerated notably for non-specialized establishments (2.6% vs 6.0%), computers, telecommunications equipment, books, and other specialized products (4.6% vs 9.3%), as well as pharmaceutical, medical, cosmetic, and hygiene products (4.9% vs 9.0%). Meanwhile, sales declined for fuel (-3.0% vs -4.6%) and household goods and related items (-0.6% vs 1.8%). In contrast, food sales accelerated, rising 6.6% compared to 5.8% in the previous month.
