The consumer confidence indicator in the Czech Republic fell to 96.6 in February 2025, marking the lowest reading since February 2024, down from 97.1 in the previous month. The number of consumers expecting the overall economic situation in the Czech Republic to deteriorate over the next twelve months increased for the third consecutive month, while the share of households expecting their financial situation to deteriorate over the next twelve months was unchanged from January. On the other hand, the number of households assessing their current financial situation as worse than in the previous twelve months fell slightly from a month earlier. Meanwhile, the proportion of consumers who believe that the current period is not conducive to making large purchases remained almost unchanged.

The business confidence indicator in the Czech Republic increased by 0.5 percentage points to 98 in February 2025 from 97.5 in the previous month. This marked the highest reading since April 2023, as sentiment strengthened in construction sector (114.7 vs 111.7%). In addition, sentiment improved for manufacturers (93.5 vs 93.2) and retailers (99.9 vs 96.2). Meanwhile, sentiment remained unchanged for service providers (100.5).

The Czech Republic’s current account posted a surplus of CZK 15.19 billion in December 2024, shifting from a CZK 7.29 billion deficit in the same month of the previous year and exceeding expectations of an CZK 8.9 billion excess. The surplus in both the goods and services accounts widened to CZK 21.24 billion and CZK 9.42 billion, respectively, from CZK 18.14 billion and CZK 5.69 billion in December 2023. Meanwhile, the primary income deficit narrowed significantly to CZK 9.74 billion from CZK 32.43 billion. In contrast, the secondary income account recorded a deficit of CZK 5.72 billion, reversing from a CZK 1.30 billion surplus in the corresponding period last year.
