Producer prices in the Czech Republic fell by 0.8% year-on-year in August 2025, easing from a 1.2% decline in the previous month and slightly better than market expectations of a 0.9% drop. Producer deflation moderated in the electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply sector (-2% vs -4% in July). Additionally, prices remained stable in both manufacturing (-0.4%) and water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation services (4.1%). On the other hand, prices continued to decline in the mining and quarrying sector (-4.4% vs -4.2%). On a monthly basis, producer prices showed no growth in August, following a 0.1% increase in the previous month.

The Czech Republic’s current account deficit widened sharply to CZK 14.94 billion in July 2025 from CZK 6.87 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, coming in slightly below market forecasts of a CZK 15 billion shortfall. This marked the third consecutive month of decline as the primary income deficit widened to CZK 26.58 billion from CZK 21.50 billion in July 2024. At the same time, the secondary income shortfall increased to CZK 6.50 billion from CZK 1.80 billion. Meanwhile, the goods surplus grew to CZK 9.44 billion from CZK 8.55 billion, while the services surplus rose to CZK 8.69 billion from CZK 7.88 billion in the same month last year.

The annual inflation rate in the Czech Republic slowed to 2.5% in August 2025 from 2.7% in the previous month, confirming initial estimates. The latest figure marked the lowest reading since May, as prices softened for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.7% vs 5.2% in July), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.7% vs 4.4%), and health (2.7% vs 3.2%). Additionally, costs declined further for clothing and footwear (-1.9% vs -1.7%). On the other hand, inflation continued to increase for furnishings, household equipment and maintenance (1.8% vs 1.6%) and recreation and culture (4.2% vs 3.9%), while deflation slowed for transport (-1.1% vs -1.7%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.1% in August, its lowest in five months, slowing from a 0.5% gain in the preceding period.

The Czech Republic recorded a trade deficit of CZK 1.7 billion in July 2025, narrowing sharply from CZK 7.2 billion in the same month of the previous year, as exports outpaced imports. Exports rose by 4.7% year-on-year to CZK 375.2 billion, while imports advanced at a softer 3.1% to CZK 376.9 billion. The balance was supported by higher surpluses in motor vehicles (CZK 5.1 billion), other transport equipment (CZK 3.0 billion) and machinery (CZK 2.3 billion), but weighed down by a CZK 5.2 billion swing in fabricated metal products to a deficit, alongside wider shortfalls in agriculture and basic metals. Considering the first seven months of the year, the country’s trade surplus reached CZK 136.7 billion, down CZK 9.4 billion a year earlier, as exports grew 4.5% and imports climbed 5.1%.
