Estonia’s trade deficit widened to EUR 380.9 million in December 2024, up from EUR 270.9 million in the same month of the previous year, marking the largest trade gap since December 2022. Imports advanced by 9% year-on-year to EUR 1,718 million, driven by increased purchases from non-EU countries (5%), despite a decline to EU countries (-3%). Among commodities, arrivals were particularly up for agricultural products and food preparations (9%) and raw materials and products of chemical industry (4%). Meanwhile, exports rose at a softer 2% to EUR 1,337 million, with stagnant sales to non-EU countries, while lower sales to EU countries (-6%). Notable increases were recorded in agricultural products and food preparations (6%) and electrical equipment (4%). For the whole year of 2024, trade deficit widened to EUR 3,251 million, compared to EUR 2,975 million in the corresponding period last year.
