Malta’s annual inflation rate inched down to 2.5% in June 2025 from 2.7% in the previous month. Prices moderated for transport (3.6% vs 5.6%in May), miscellaneous goods and services (3.9% vs 4.3%), education (5.2% vs 5.6%), health (2.7% vs 3%), recreation and culture (1% vs 1.2%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (0.1% vs 0.4%), and housing and utilities (0.6% vs. 0.7%). Deflation also continued for communication at the same rate as last month (at -3.6%). Meanwhile, prices rose at a faster pace for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2% vs 1.8%) and restaurants and hotels (4% vs 3.3%), while prices remained unchanged for food and non-alcoholic beverages (at 4.2%). Additionally, costs stabilized for clothing and footwear after a 0.7% drop in the prior period. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 1.2% in June, easing from a 1.7% gain in May.
