Malta’s annual inflation rate inched down to 2.4% in September 2025 from 2.7% in the previous month, marking the lowest reading since March. Inflation eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.5% vs 4% in August), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.7% vs 2%), restaurants and hotels (3.4% vs 3.5%), and transport (2.3% vs 3.4%). Prices also declined for clothing and footwear (-0.7% vs 2.7%) and further for communication (-3.4% vs -3.1%). Meanwhile, prices remained unchanged for housing and utilities (0.7%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (1.7%), health (2.8%), recreation and culture (2.4%), and education (5.2%). In contrast, inflation rose for miscellaneous goods and services (3.7% vs 3.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 1.3% in September, reversing a 0.7% rise in August.
