Annual producer inflation in North Macedonia edged up to 7.3% in March 2025 from 7.1% in the previous month. This marked the eleventh consecutive month of rising producer prices and the highest level since February 2023, mainly driven by higher costs for capital goods (17.7% vs 16% in February). Meanwhile, price growth slowed for intermediate goods (1.1% vs 1.7%) and consumer goods (4.2% vs 5%), particularly non-durable goods (4.8% vs 5.5%). On a monthly basis, producer prices rose by 0.5% in March, following a 0.6% increase in February.

North Macedonia’s annual inflation rate eased slightly to 2.6% in April 2025, down from 2.7% in the previous month. The moderation was mainly driven by slower price increases in several categories, including miscellaneous goods and services (2.7% vs 3.8% in March), restaurants and hotels (11.4% vs 12%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.5% vs 2.1%). However, these effects were partially offset by stronger inflation in furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (4.4% vs 3.3%), and recreation and culture (6.8% vs 6%). Additionally, the pace of price declines slowed in transport (-1.7% vs -3.8%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.6%, rebounding from a 1.3% drop in the previous month.

North Macedonia’s trade deficit narrowed to $258 million in March 2025 from $294.1 million in the same month last year. Exports fell by 3.8% year-on-year to $754.4 million, while imports declined by 6.2% to $1,012.4 million. Considering January to March period, the country’s trade deficit was $885.9 million. Exports decreased by 3% from a year earlier to $2,031.1 million due to lower sales of chemicals and related products, n.e.s (-16%), manufactured goods classified chiefly by material (-5.4%), and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-8.6%). Meanwhile, imports dropped by 1.8% to $2,916.9 million, attributed mainly to reduced purchases of crude materials, inedible, except fuels (-16.4%), machinery and transport equipment (-8.3%), and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-8.7%).

Industrial production in North Macedonia increased by 5.2% year-on-year in March 2025, rebounding from a 0.8% fall in the previous month. This marked the strongest growth in industrial activity since October 2023, mainly driven by higher output in manufacturing (4.8% vs 1.7% in February) and electricity, gas, steam & air conditioning supply (12.9% vs 7.7). Moreover, output decreased at a softer pace for mining and quarrying (-1.5% vs -4.4%). Considering the first three months of the year, the country's industrial production was 2% higher compared to the same period a year ago.
