North Macedonia's trade deficit narrowed to $250 million in May 2025, from $309 million in the same month of the previous year. Exports surged by 28.1% year-on-year to $841 million, while imports climbed at a slower rate of 13.3% to $1,091 million. For the January to May period, the country’s trade deficit totaled $1,448 million. Exports increased by 3.3% compared to the same period a year earlier, amounting to $3,627 million, driven by higher sales of beverages and tobacco (56.8%), animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes (31%), and machinery and transport (15.6%). Meanwhile, imports rose by 0.95% to $5,075 million, mainly due to growth in purchases of animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes (27.7%), beverages and tobacco (14.4%), and mineral fuels, lubricants and related products (7.1%).
