The annual producer inflation in North Macedonia eased to 5.8% in May 2025, from 6.1% in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading since November 2024, as prices moderated for intermediate goods excluding energy (0.5% vs 2.1% in April) and capital goods (13.4% vs 13.8%). Meanwhile, costs accelerated for energy (17.4% vs 16.9%) and consumer goods (4.9% vs 3.9%), particularly for durable goods (0.4%) and non-durable goods (5.2%). On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.4% in May 2025, rebounding from a 0.2% fall in the preceding month.

North Macedonia’s annual inflation rate picked up to 4.5% in June 2025 from 3.3% in the previous month, marking the highest reading since February. Main upward pressure came from prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (6.3% vs 4.9% in May); recreation & culture (5.6% vs 5%); restaurants & hotels (7.6% vs 7.8%) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (5.9% vs 5.95%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.8% in June, following a 1.5% increase in the prior month.

North Macedonia's trade deficit narrowed to $250 million in May 2025, from $309 million in the same month of the previous year. Exports surged by 28.1% year-on-year to $841 million, while imports climbed at a slower rate of 13.3% to $1,091 million. For the January to May period, the country’s trade deficit totaled $1,448 million. Exports increased by 3.3% compared to the same period a year earlier, amounting to $3,627 million, driven by higher sales of beverages and tobacco (56.8%), animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes (31%), and machinery and transport (15.6%). Meanwhile, imports rose by 0.95% to $5,075 million, mainly due to growth in purchases of animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes (27.7%), beverages and tobacco (14.4%), and mineral fuels, lubricants and related products (7.1%).

Industrial production in North Macedonia rose by 9.4% year-on-year in May 2025, picking up from a 1.4% increase in the previous month. This marked the strongest growth in industrial activity since October 2023, driven by a sharp rebound in output for mining and quarrying (18.8% vs. -1.2% in April) and faster output growth in manufacturing (9% vs. 2.5%). Meanwhile, activity continued to decline in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (-11.8% vs. -18.3%). Considering the first five months of the year, industrial production was 3.3% higher compared to the same period last year.
