Retail sales in Cyprus rose by 3.6% year-on-year in December 2024, easing from an over one-year high of 6.3% in the previous month. This marked the softest expansion in retail activity since July, as sales growth slowed significantly for food, beverages, and tobacco in non-specialized stores (1.8% vs 8% in November), clothing and footwear (8.6% vs 14.1%), and edible goods (1.7% vs 7.4%). Additionally, trade declined for food, beverages, and tobacco in specialized stores (-2.8% vs 1.9%) and retail sales not in stores (-0.9% vs -5.2%). On the other hand, sales increased for iInformation and communication equipment (8% vs -1%) and pharmaceuticals, orthopedic goods, and cosmetics (9.6% vs 8%). On a year-to-date basis, retail sales advanced by 4.3%.
