Bahrain's economy advanced by 3.4% year-on-year in Q4 of 2024, accelerating from an upwardly revised 2.9% expansion in the previous quarter, preliminary data showed. It marked the fastest growth since Q4 of 2023, boosted by a 4.6% increase in the non-oil sector. Meanwhile, the oil sector fell by 3.5%. For the 2024 full year, the economy grew 2.6%, easing from a 3.9% growth in 2023, driven by a 3.8% non-oil activities, which account for 86.0% of the GDP. Among economic activities, information and communication grew the most (12.3%), followed by professional, scientific, and technical (9.5%), and accommodation and food services (5.9%), transportation and storage (4.9%), and manufacturing (4.5%). Conversely, the oil sector shrank 4%. For 2025, the economy is expected to grow by 2.7%, boosted by a 3.4% growth in non-oil activities.

The annual inflation rate in Bahrain stood at 0.1% in March 2025, unchanged from the previous month. Prices edged lower for transport (3.6% vs 3.7% in February), while deflation worsened for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-1.7% vs -0.8%), furnishings (-2.2% vs -0.8%), and clothing and footwear (-6.7% vs -5.7%). Meanwhile, costs accelerated for restaurants and hotels (3.9% vs 1.5%) and health services (5.9% vs 5.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.2%, reversing a 0.3% rise in February.

S&P Global Ratings on April 23 2025 changed Bahrain’s fiscal outlook from stable to negative, citing ongoing fiscal pressures and weaker oil prices. The country's gross government debt is expected to rise to 144% of GDP by 2028 from 130% in 2024, amid stalling fiscal reforms, lower oil revenues, and market volatility. These factors could strain interest payments and foreign currency reserves. The fiscal deficit is projected to widen to 7.0% of GDP in 2025, from 5.2% in 2024, due to rising social spending and funding costs. Although the government has taken steps to boost non-oil revenues—such as launching a VAT and doubling it to 10% in 2022—expenditures have exceeded expectations. S&P noted the outlook could return to stable if the government enacts meaningful fiscal reforms and improves its forex reserves. Bahrain's long- and short-term foreign currency sovereign credit ratings were affirmed at "B+". Meanwhile, Moody's credit rating for Bahrain was last set at B2 with stable outlook.
