The annual inflation rate in Bangladesh rose to 8.36% in September 2025, picking up from a more than three-year low of 8.29% in the previous month. The upturn was primarily driven by higher prices in food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.64% vs 7.6% in August), housing and utilities (7.63% vs 7.62%), alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (12.65% vs 12.57%), clothing and footwear (13.9% vs 13.89%), health (3.85% vs 3.8%), communication (7.81% vs 7.74%), restaurants and hotels (10.96% vs 9.65%), and miscellaneous goods and services (16.91% vs 15.03%). Meanwhile, costs moderated for transport (6.31% vs 6.75%), furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (7.76% vs 8.11%), recreation and culture (8.09% vs 8.47%), and education (8.71% vs 8.97%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.05% in September, easing from 2.36% in the previous month and marking its lowest reading since June.
