Namibia's annual inflation rate rose to 3.4% in December 2024, after holding steady at 3% for the previous two months, marking the highest reading since September. The upward pressure came from food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.9% vs 5.3% in November) and hotels, cafes and restaurants (5.7% vs 5.6%). Additionally, deflation slowed for transport (-1.4% vs -3.5%). Meanwhile, prices edged lower for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.6% vs 4.8%), clothing and footwear (2.5% vs 2.7%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (2.2% vs 2.5%), health (4.2% vs 4.4%), and miscellaneous goods and services (3% vs 3.1%). At the same time, costs were stable for housing and utilities (4.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices slightly eased to 0.2% in December 2024 from 0.3% in the preceding month.
