Vietnam’s government reported that the economy grew at an annual rate of 8.22% in Q3 2025, when a 20% tariff on US imports of its products took effect, accelerating from a 7.96% expansion in Q2. “It is the highest quarterly growth since 2011, excluding the surge in 2022 due to post-COVID-19 recovery,” the government said in a statement, citing Finance Minister Nguyen Van Thang on Sunday, as reported by Reuters. The third quarter was also marked by severe weather disruptions, with eight storms hitting the country — including Typhoon Bualoi, which caused an estimated 16.5 trillion dong ($625.5 million) in damage. For the first three quarters of the year, GDP expanded 7.84% compared to the same period in 2024. During this period, consumer prices rose 3.27% year-on-year, with September inflation at 3.38%. The National Statistics Office is expected to release a full set of economic data, including trade figures, on Monday.
