Retail sales in Ireland rose by 0.2% month-over-month in September 2025, rebounding from a 1% drop in the previous month. The recovery was largely driven by higher sales in department stores (6.5% vs -4.3%), clothing, footwear, and textiles (3.6% vs -2.4%), motor trades (0.5% vs -3.6%), and electrical goods (2.6% vs -0.2%). Sales also improved for hardware, paints, and glass (1.8% vs 0.3%) as well as books, newspapers, and stationery (0.5% vs -0.7%). In contrast, activity weakened further for food, beverages, and tobacco (-2.6% vs -0.7%), while growth moderated for other retail categories (0.5% vs 1.1%). On a yearly basis, retail sales increased by 3.5% in September, marking the softest growth in three months and easing from a 3.9% rise in the preceding month.
