Retail sales in Indonesia increased by 2.0% year-on-year in February 2025, accelerating sharply from January’s nine-month low of 0.5%, marking the tenth consecutive month of expansion in retail trade. The latest reading also marked the fastest pace since last September, mainly driven by a surge in sales of automotive parts and accessories (16.1% vs 15.2% in January). At the same time, turnover grew faster for cultural and recreational goods (7.5% vs 1.9%) and food (1.8% vs 0.9%), while rebounding in clothing (4.9% vs -5.8%) and fuels (3.3% vs -1.4%). Additionally, sales fell less for information and communication (-2.3% vs -3.4%) and home appliances (-4.2% vs -9.1%). Retail sales are expected to rise by 0.5% in March. On a monthly basis, retail sales climbed by 3.3% in February, recovering from a 4.7% decline in January.

Indonesia's consumer confidence dropped to 121.1 in March 2025, down from February’s 126.4, declining for the third consecutive month amid weakening purchasing power and a shrinking middle class. This marked the lowest reading since last October, as all the six sub-indices deteriorated: job availability (down 8.3 points to 125.9), job availability compared to six months ago (down 5.9 points to 100.3), economic outlook (down 7.0 points to 131.7), the country's current economic conditions (down 3.6 points to 110.6), income expectations for the next six months (down 6.3 points to 137.0), and income expectations for current income (down 1.4 points to 121.3) improved.

Car sales in Indonesia declined by 5.1% year-on-year to 70,909 units in February 2025, reversing a 2.2% growth in the previous month. The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) has set a car sales target for 2025 between 750,000 and 900,000 units. This forecast surpasses the 2024 revised projection of 850,000 units and exceeds the previous year's actual sales, which reached 865,723 units wholesale and 889,680 units retail. On a monthly basis, car sales fell by 1.9% in February 2025, following a 16.9% surge in the previous month.
