S&P Global upgraded Egypt’s credit rating to ‘B’ on Friday, citing ongoing reforms that have led to a sharp rebound in GDP growth. Meanwhile, Fitch affirmed Egypt’s rating at ‘B’, highlighting the country’s relatively high growth potential and strong support from international partners. Fitch last upgraded Egypt’s rating to ‘B’ in November 2024, when rising foreign investment and tighter monetary conditions helped strengthen the country's finances. S&P’s recent upgrade is the first since Egypt began receiving financial support around March 2024. S&P also noted that Egypt’s strategic importance has been elevated by the ongoing conflict in Gaza, contributing to continued financial backing from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members and other nations. As of now, Standard & Poor’s credit rating for Egypt stands at ‘B’ with a stable outlook, while Moody’s rating remains at ‘Caa1’ with a positive outlook.

This marked the lowest inflation rate since March 2022. On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) climbed 1.8% in September, accelerating from a 0.4% rise in August.

The downturn was driven by a steeper contraction in new sales, due to subdued economic conditions, rising prices, and greater wage pressures.

The Central Bank of Egypt cut its overnight deposit rate by 100bps to 21% in their October 2025 meeting, the fourth reduction this year, and loosely aligned with expectations of a slash that ranged between a cut of 100bps and 200bps. The move added to a cumulative 525bps in rate cuts in 2025, with the Egyptian pound's recent strength adding room for the central bank to lower rates and ease pressures on growth and soaring levels on interest payments by the central government. The official exchange rate for the pound held its rebound from this year to hold below 48 per USD, aligned with the devaluation from early 2024. The cut is expected to mark the end of the current easing cycle for the CBE as the central government is due to hike fuel prices later this month as part of reforms backed by the IMF, risking some traction in inflation.
