Retail sales in Taiwan fell by 3.8% year-on-year in February 2025, slipping from an upwardly revised and eleven-month high of 5.5% increase in the previous month. This marked the first decline in retail activity since October 2024, as sales plunged for textiles and clothing (-21.6% vs 16.3% in January), cultural and recreation goods (-7.3% vs 20.8%), and food, beverages, and tobacco (-5.1% vs 11.9%). Meanwhile, trade rebounded for construction materials (11% vs -12%) and motor vehicles, motorcycles and related parts and accessories (20.6% vs -9.2%). On a monthly basis, retail sales dropped by 20.2% in February, following a 2.8% gain in the preceding period.
