Legrand tumbled more than 10% after reporting nine-month sales of €6.97 billion, slightly below expectations, fueling concerns over high valuations in the sector. Teleperformance slumped 7% after cutting its annual targets, with third-quarter revenue down 0.5% to €2.51 billion, while Schneider Electric lost 2.4% following news of a partnership with NVIDIA to develop “AI factory” infrastructure. Other tech names also weakened, including Dassault Systèmes (-0.6%) and STMicroelectronics (-1.3%). In contrast, ArcelorMittal gained 5.2% after posting Q3 EBITDA of $1.51 billion, in line with forecasts, and expressing optimism for 2026 despite soft demand. Veolia rose 0.7% after reporting a 5.4% increase in nine-month EBITDA to €5.08 billion, topping estimates.

The HCOB Construction PMI in France fell to 39.8 in October 2025 from 42.9 in September, signaling a faster pace of decline in activity and extending the sector's downturn to 41 months. All three surveyed categories declined again in October, with faster drops seen across the board. The residential sector led the decline with its steepest drop since June, while commercial and civil engineering activity were also under significant pressure. Both new orders and employment saw their sharpest contractions since May 2020, reflecting continued demand weakness amid domestic political instability. As a result, construction firms scaled back purchases of building materials, marking the joint-strongest reduction in almost five and a half years. On the price front, input cost inflation rose to an eight-month high, though it remained below the survey’s long-run average. Finally, firms remained pessimistic about the outlook, with confidence slipping to its lowest level in 11 years.

Private payroll employment in France fell by 0.3%, or 60,600 jobs, to a nearly three-year low of 20.97 million in Q3 2025, reversing a 0.2% increase in the previous quarter. Job losses were mainly concentrated in temporary employment (-0.2%), which accounted for roughly two-thirds of the overall decline. Excluding temporary work, employment was virtually stable in industry (-0.1%) but continued to fall in construction (-0.3%). Market services (excluding temporary work) declined 0.3%, while non-market services fell by 0.3%. On a yearly basis, private payroll employment decreased by 0.5%, or 112,100 jobs, marking the fourth consecutive annual decline. Despite this, employment remained well above pre-pandemic levels, with a gain of 5.2%, or 1.0 million jobs, since the end of 2019. Temporary employment stayed below its Q3 2024 level by 2.6% and remained 8.6% below its pre-pandemic level.
