President Donald Trump announced on Friday a "major" tariff investigation targeting imported furniture, signaling potential new duties amid rising prices in the sector. In a Truth Social post, Trump stated, “Furniture coming from other Countries into the United States will be Tariffed at a Rate yet to be determined.” The probe, expected to conclude within 50 days, will be conducted under Section 232 of the national security statute, according to a White House official. It may also serve as a legal fallback if courts overturn existing "reciprocal" tariffs imposed earlier on trading partners, including China, Canada, and Mexico. Trump emphasized the move would revive domestic manufacturing: “This will bring the Furniture Business back to North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, and States all across the Union.”
