Optimism grew around potential tax incentives tied to US chip investments. On the data front, traders dealt with mixed signs as Italy's unemployment rate unexpectedly surged to 6.5% in May, above expectations of 6%, however total employment rose to a record high, at 24,301,000 people. On the corporate front, STMicroelectronics jumped 5.3% on reports that the proposed tax credit for US-made chip investments could rise to 35%. Moncler (+4.2%), Saipem (+3.2%), and Tenaris (+3.2%) also advanced. On the downside, Hera lost 2.7% and Inwit fell 2.1%. Mediobanca declined 2.1% after Mediolanum Bank fully exited its 3.5% stake.
