India's BSE Sensex closed about 0.4% up at 83,014 on Thursday, a high level not seen since July 10 and extending gains for a third straight session. Gains were led by IT and pharmaceutical shares as the Federal Reserve resumed policy easing and hinted at more cuts, while optimism over ongoing US-India trade talks added support. The pharmaceutical sector received an additional boost from favorable regulatory actions by the US drug regulator involving other Indian companies, namely Biocon and Natco Pharma. On the trade front, Chief Economic Adviser V. Anantha Nageswaran indicated that the US is likely to roll back its 25% punitive tariff on Indian goods and cut reciprocal duties to 10–15% by November 30, potentially benefiting nearly $50 billion in exports. Among equities, Eternal, Sun Pharma, Infosys, HDFC Bank, and Power Grid were top performers, rising as much as 2.9%, while Bajaj Finance, Trent, Tata Motors, UltraTech Cement, and Asian Paints recorded losses up to 1%.
