The US dollar index held above 97 on Friday after rising for two straight sessions, as a stronger-than-expected June jobs report eased concerns over an economic slowdown and reduced pressure on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates. The US economy added 147,000 jobs in June, up from 144,000 in May and well above market expectations of 110,000. At the same time, the unemployment rate unexpectedly fell to 4.1%, defying forecasts of an uptick to 4.3%. On the trade front, President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to announce new tariff rates or a possible extension of the July 9 deadline for targeted countries, providing additional support to markets. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives passed Trump’s sweeping tax cuts and spending package, which now heads to the White House for his signature. The bill is projected to widen the federal budget deficit by over $3 trillion.
