The S&P Global UK Manufacturing PMI rose to 47.7 in June of 2025 from 46.4 in the previous month, in line with the flash estimate and above the initial market expectations of 46.6. The result reflected the softest contraction in British manufacturing activity since January, in line with European counterparts in similar surveys, whose goods-producing sectors are undergoing gradual recoveries. New orders fell the least in the current nine-month sequence, pressuring output levels to scale down as companies reported weak market conditions due to uncertain economic policy, geopolitical backdrops, and tariffs. Lower new orders were also observed from foreign clients, particularly in the US, Europe, and China. Consequently, jobs were cut for the eighth consecutive month. On the price front, input costs rose for the 18th straight month amid higher shipping and labor costs, which were partly passed to clients through increases in output charges.
