The FTSE 100 rose about 0.5% to around 8,680 on Tuesday, after a slight dip in the previous session, in line with European peers. Traders remained focused on US trade tariffs and corporate news but grew cautious after the initial optimism about softer tariffs faded. Ongoing uncertainty about the next steps, including the risk of secondary tariffs on countries importing oil from Venezuela, is adding more complexity to the trade dispute. Real estate and housebuilding companies, including Segro, Persimmon, Barratt, and Redrow, saw gains between 1.7% and 3.2% after strong Bellway results and the UK government's £2 billion pledge for affordable housing. Shell shares rose 1.8% on the back of its short strategy announcement ahead of its capital markets day later. On the downside, Kingfisher slumped after the DIY retail group forecast small earnings growth this year at best and warned of the impact of budgetary measures in the UK and France on consumer sentiment and costs in the short term.
