The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce’s consumer confidence index rose to 59.0 in January 2025, up from 57.9 in December. It marked the fourth consecutive month of improvement and the highest figure since May, supported by the government’s economic measures, tourism, and exports. Foreign tourist arrivals to Thailand soared 22% to 3.7 million in January, mainly driven by a rise in arrivals from China during the Lunar New Year holidays. In the meantime, exports grew 5.4% to a record USD 301 billion last year. The latest figure also aligns with the improvement in Thailand’s GDP, with the economy expected to grow by 2.7% in 2024 and 2.9% in 2025, accelerating from a 1.9% expansion in 2023. Meanwhile, inflation accelerated to 1.32% in January, staying within the central bank’s 1%-3% target range for the second straight month due to higher fuel and food prices.
