Personal consumption in Thailand fell by 1.5% month-on-month in April 2025, slipping further from a 0.5% drop in the previous month. The contraction was primarily driven by a decline in service sector spending, largely due to reduced expenditure by Thai tourists both domestically and abroad. On the other hand, consumption of durable goods rose, mainly supported by increased passenger car sales during the Thailand International Motor Show. In addition, spending on non-durable and semi-durable goods saw a modest uptick, driven by higher sales of consumer products, beverages, and imported textiles and apparel. Meanwhile, consumer confidence softened amid mounting concerns over US trade policies, a slowdown in the tourism sector, and persistently high household and business debt levels.
