Thailand’s consumer prices fell 0.57% year-on-year in May 2025, marking the second month of deflation, following a 0.22% drop in April, though the fall was smaller than market expectations of a 0.83% decrease. The decline was driven by ongoing deflation across most sub-indexes, including housing and furnishings (-0.30% vs -0.67% in April), medical and personal care (-1.05% vs -0.72%), transport (-3.38% vs -2.97%), clothing and footwear (-0.91% vs -0.56%), and other non-food and beverage categories (-1.51% vs -1.45%). Meanwhile, inflation in food and non-alcoholic beverages eased to 0.89%—its lowest level in 11 months—down from 1.63% in April. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.26%, rebounding from a 0.21% drop in the previous period. The annual core inflation edged up to 1.09% from 0.98%, missing market expectations for a slight slowdown to 0.95%. This marked the highest core inflation rate since June 2023.
