Personal consumption in Thailand slipped 0.6% month-over-month in September 2024, from a four-month high of a 0.5% rise in the previous month. This marked the first decline after two consecutive months of growth, as consumption of durables fell, reflected in lower sales of passenger cars and pickup trucks. This decline was partly due to cautious lending by financial institutions for auto loans. Additionally, spending on non-durables decreased, primarily in fuel consumption. In contrast, sales of consumer goods excluding alcoholic beverages increased, partly benefiting from the recent stimulus program. Also, spending in the services sector remained steady. Meanwhile, consumer confidence continued to decline, citing concerns over the flood situation, high living costs, and subdued economic growth.
