Imports to Thailand rose 10.2% yoy to a record peak of USD 28.58 billion in March 2025, picking up sharply from a 4.0% growth in the prior month and easily exceeding market consensus of 6.35%. It was the 10th straight month of growth in purchases and the fastest pace since December, ahead of rising US tariffs. Imports increased for consumer goods (19.0%), capital goods (15.8%), raw materials, semi-finished products (9.5%), and fuel products (2.2%) but fell for transport equipment (-2.6%), and other products (-2.2%). Commodity-wise, purchases grew for crude oil (5.7%), electrical machinery (47.9%), circuit board (0.5%), machinery & components (31.0%), jewelry, gems, silver (41.6%), metal ores, scrap metals (26.3%), iron and steel (7.2%), and natural gas (14.5%). In contrast, arrivals fell for chemicals (-8.9%), and computers and components (-35.9%). During the first three months of 2025, imports increased 7.4% to USD 80.45 billion. In 2024, purchases gained 6.34% to USD 306.81 billion.
