Imports to Taiwan climbed 19.8% to USD 33.17 billion in November 2024 from a 6.5% rise in the previous month, beating market forecasts of 18.2% gain. This marked the strongest expansion since June, as imports accelerated for information, communication and audio-video products (68%), parts of electronic products (32%), machinery (9.3%), and chemicals (1.8%). However, imports fell for mineral products (-1.9%), particularly petroleum. Among main suppliers, purchases went up the most from South Korea (61.5%), followed by ASEAN countries (26.4%), and the USA (15.5%). However, purchases declined from the Middle East (-11.2%). Considering January to November period, imports were posted at USD 357.13 billion, a 10.6% higher than during the corresponding period last year.
