Retail sales in Taiwan rose by 0.4% year-on-year in March 2025, recovering from a 3.8% drop in the previous month. Sales rebounded for general merchandise (4.3% vs -11.1% in February), food, beverages and tobacco (4% vs -5.1%), household appliances and goods (1.3% vs -7.1%), and other products (4.4% vs -1.9%). At the same time, sales decreased at a slower pace for textile and clothing (-4.3% vs -21.6%), cultural and recreational goods (-1% vs -7.3%), fuel and related products (-1.1% vs -3%), and information and communications equipment and electrical household appliances (-0.5% vs -4%). On a monthly basis, retail sales surged by 10.5% in March, rebounding sharply from a 20.2% decline in the preceding period.
