The benchmark KOSPI rallied 2.66% to close at 2,771 on Wednesday, hitting its highest level in over ten months as investor sentiment improved following the election of Lee Jae-myung as South Korea's new president. The president-elect has pledged to revitalize the economy through a comprehensive recovery plan which includes a $20.6 billion supplementary budget, deregulation to foster innovation, and significant investments in AI, biotechnology, and renewable energy. Additionally, amid US tariff concerns, President Lee vows to secure better trade terms and deepen ties with China, Japan, and North Korea. Leading gains among major stocks were chipmakers and financials, such as SK Hynix (5.4%), Samsung Electronics (1.6%), Shinhan Financial Group (5.6%), and KB Financial Group (7.3%). Conversely, losses were seen in Celltrion (0.5%) and Samsung Biologics (0.2%).
