Investor sentiment also improved following the return of trade envoy Yeo Han-koo from Washington, where he held the first high-level tariff talks since President Lee’s June inauguration, aiming to secure US exemptions from steel, automobile, and reciprocal tariffs ahead of the deadline. On the domestic front, retail sales remained flat month-on-month in May, following a 0.9% decline in April, underscoring ongoing challenges in consumer demand despite the currency’s recent strength.
