The NZX 50 rose 33 points, or 0.3%, to 13,493 in morning trade on Friday, extending gains from a day earlier while lingering at its highest level in three weeks. Industrials, consumer discretionary, and real estate stocks mainly buoyed the rise. Thursday's US–China trade deals and the Fed’s rate cuts continued to lift sentiment. Traders are now awaiting PMI data from New Zealand’s key trading partner, China, as well as trade balance figures to help guide expectations for the mainland’s economic prospects. However, market participants also anticipate the release of the RBNZ’s Financial Stability Report and New Zealand’s jobs data next week for clues about the central bank’s upcoming monetary policy path. On the data front, consumer confidence in New Zealand weakened slightly in October. Among early gainers were Fonterra (1.1%), Port of Tauranga (0.9%), and Ebos Group (0.8%). For the week, the index is heading for a 0.7% rise, which would mark a second straight weekly gain.
