Japanese stocks followed a strong Wall Street lead overnight, buoyed by hopes of a less aggressive stance on Trump’s reciprocal tariffs. Meanwhile, Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda told parliament that they will continue raising interest rates if economic projections are realized. Ueda said that growth has exceeded forecasts as the positive cycle from rising income to increased spending gradually strengthened. Consumer stocks led the advance, with strong gains from Nintendo (5.3%), Sony Group (2.3%), and Fast Retailing (1.5%). Technology stocks also posted notable gains, including Disco Corp (2.6%), Dena Co (2.1%), and Tokyo Electron (1.6%).
