India's BSE Sensex closed about 1.1% down at two-week lows of 79,454.5 on Friday, extending losses from the prior session, mainly influenced by rising India-Pakistan tensions. Fresh cross-border drone and missile attacks by Pakistan deepened fears of a wider conflict. Meanwhile, market sentiment was tempered by sustained foreign inflows and optimism over a potential US-India trade deal, following India’s recent agreement with the UK. Utilities, industrials and banks were among the top decliners. On the flip side, L&T and Titan Company jumped nearly 4% after reporting 25% and 13% profit growth, respectively. Tata Motors, SBI, Asian Paints, and M&M also advanced. For the week, the index recorded a 1.3% drop, marking its first weekly decline in a month, weighed down by concerns over ongoing geopolitical cross-border tensions. Indian markets will be closed on Monday, May 12, for a national holiday.
