Frankfurt's DAX extended its upward momentum to trade above 24,400 on Thursday afternoon, setting new record levels, as investors welcomed the ECB’s widely expected latest policy move. The central bank cut its deposit rate to 2% from 2.25%, marking the eighth consecutive reduction, amid easing inflation and trade-related risks to regional growth. Most notably, the ECB also revised its inflation forecasts downward for both 2025 and 2026. On the domestic data front, German factory orders unexpectedly rose in April, defying forecasts of a decline, reflecting robust domestic and euro area demand. Among stocks, Bayer topped the index with a jump of over 5%, boosted by Goldman Sachs upgrading its stock rating from Neutral to Buy and the US FDA’s approval of expanded use for its prostate cancer drug Nubeqa. Other notable performers included Heidelberg Materials and Rheinmetall, rising 4.3% and 3.6%, respectively.
