Germany's DAX fell more than 1% to near 24,100 on Tuesday, its lowest since October 1, reversing some of the previous session’s gains. Market sentiment weakened as traders weighed renewed trade tensions between the US and China after the announcement of tit-for-tat additional port fees on ocean shipping firms. Meanwhile, investors remained cautious ahead of the first US quarterly earnings, mainly from the financial sector, while keeping an eye on France’s political situation and the ongoing US government shutdown. On the corporate front, Continental was the biggest laggard, down 3.6%, tracking losses in French peer Michelin after the latter cut its guidance. Siemens Energy and Siemens followed closely, falling 3.5% and 2.7%, respectively. On the upside, Volkswagen gained nearly 2%, as the German automaker sought to reassure investors about tariff and luxury brand pressures ahead of its Q3 results.
