Frankfurt's DAX built on early gains to close about 1.1% firmer at 23,110 on Tuesday, halting four consecutive sessions of losses, supported by strong domestic data and hopes of a softer stance on US trade tariffs. The Ifo Business Climate indicator for Germany climbed to an eight-month high in March, matching forecasts, with businesses optimistic about a recovery following the parliament’s approval of a massive infrastructure and defense spending plan. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump on Monday suggested sector-specific tariffs and exemptions for selected countries starting April 2nd, alleviating concerns over broader economic fallout despite ongoing uncertainty. Among equities, Bayer, which fell sharply after a court ruling, bounced back with a 5.2% gain. German auto stocks, led by BMW (+1.9%), rose on easing tariff concerns, while Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz Group, and Porsche also saw gains. Fresenius Medical Care added 1.7% in healthcare stocks.
