The CAC 40 fell 1.6% to end below the 7,920 level on Friday, extending losses into the close amid renewed US–China trade war concerns. President Trump threatened a “massive increase in tariffs” on Chinese imports in response to Beijing’s plans to tighten export controls on rare earths, and also hinted he might cancel his upcoming meeting with President Xi Jinping. The comments triggered a global sell-off. Earlier in the session, French stocks traded cautiously as investors monitored the domestic political situation, awaiting President Macron’s appointment of a new prime minister. Among the heaviest losers, Stellantis dropped 7.3%, ArcelorMittal fell 5.8%, and the luxury sector came under pressure, with LVMH down 2.3%. For the week, the CAC 40 declined 1.5%.
