The CAC 40 climbed 0.6% to close at 7,255 on Friday as traders assessed flash PMI data and corporate news while looking past Russia-Ukraine tensions and Europe's gloomy economic outlook. Eurozone business activity weakened in November, missing expectations as the services sector contracted for the first time in 10 months, while manufacturing remained sluggish. In France, preliminary estimates showed the Composite PMI declined further, underperforming forecasts. On the corporate front, luxury stocks were among the top performers, with LVMH rising 1.4%, Hermès up 1.7%, and L'Oréal gaining 1.9%, bolstered by a positive outlook from Bernstein. Other strong gainers included Sanofi, Stellantis, and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, which added between 2.5% and 3.1%. Conversely, Thales tumbled 2.9% after the UK’s Serious Fraud Office launched an investigation into alleged bribery and corruption. Despite Friday’s rebound, the CAC 40 recorded a 0.3% weekly loss, its fifth straight weekly decline.
