Passenger car registrations in the European Union surged by 7.4% year-on-year to 914,680 units in July 2025, marking a strong rebound from a 7.3% fall in June. The recovery was mainly driven by sharp increases in two of the EU's four largest markets: Spain (17.1%) and Germany (11.1%). In contrast, registrations in France and Italy declined by 7.7% and 5.1%, respectively. In the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment, registrations soared by 39.1% yoy, fueled in particular by a 127.1% jump in Spain. Significant gains were also recorded in Germany (58.6%), France (14.8%), and the Netherlands (10.2%). For seven months of 2025, total EU car registrations dropped by 0.7% year-on-year. However, BEV sales grew by 12.5% to 1.01 million units, accounting for 15.6% of the EU market. Three of the four largest BEV markets—Germany (38.4%), Belgium (17.6%), and the Netherlands (6.5%)—collectively accounted for 60% of total BEV registrations. In contrast, France saw a 4.3% decline in BEV sales.
