Both rates remain at record lows following cuts in October and July. These decisions highlight the PBoC's ongoing assessment of the impact of earlier stimulus measures as China intensifies efforts to counter its economic slowdown and achieve its 2024 growth target of around 5% despite persistent challenges. Meanwhile, earlier today, the central bank emphasized its efforts to maintain currency stability, particularly as the yuan's recent depreciation has been exacerbated by the U.S. dollar's strength following Donald Trump’s presidential election victory. The threat of higher tariffs on Chinese goods has further added pressure on the yuan.
