China will remove tariffs on certain US optical fiber imports starting November 10, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday. The decision comes amid easing trade tensions between Washington and Beijing. “Following the implementation of these measures, and given the changes in the trade environment, the Ministry of Commerce proposed to the State Council Tariff Commission to cease implementing the anti-circumvention measures on imported wavelength-shifted single-mode optical fiber originating in the United States,” the ministry said in a statement. The initial tariffs, ranging from 33.3% to 78.2%, were imposed in September as a result of an investigation launched in March by Chinese authorities in response to ongoing trade disputes between Beijing and Washington. Corning Inc., OFS Fitel LLC, and Draka Communications Americas Inc. are among the affected companies, with Corning facing a 37.9% levy, OFS Fitel 33.3%, and Draka Communications 78.2%.
