The S&P/TSX Composite rose about 0.3% to trade above 30,400 on Wednesday, paring earlier losses and probing fresh record territory as a commodity-led bid across miners and energy names more than offset scattered weakness. Gold’s break above $4,000 an ounce directly lifted gold miners and explorers, while a firmer copper complex supported base-metal producers and processors. Top performers included First Quantum (2.2%), Barrick Mining (1.5%), Teck Resources (1.5%) and Agnico Eagle (1.3%). Mega-cap Shopify also recovered some ground, adding roughly 1.5% after yesterday’s pullback. Talks between Canadian officials and the White House produced assurances on tariff treatment, trimmed a key tail risk for exporters, helped risk assets tied to Canada’s commodity cycle.
