The Australian dollar rose to around $0.64 on Friday, reaching its highest level in ten weeks as strong economic data fueled expectations of a more gradual easing cycle from the Reserve Bank of Australia. Data showed that private sector growth in Australia extended into a fifth consecutive month in February, with both manufacturing and services activities remaining in expansionary territory. Additionally, recent reports indicated that employment rose more than expected in December, pointing to a robust labor market. Earlier this week, the RBA lowered its cash rate by 25 basis points to 4.1%, as anticipated. However, the central bank took a more cautious stance on further rate cuts, citing concerns that the disinflation process could stall. In a press conference following the meeting, RBA Governor Michele Bullock emphasized that the central bank cannot yet declare victory over inflation and cautioned that there may be limited room for additional cuts.
