如果照生還者的說法，那幾位由哈特利指揮的提琴手在最後一刻仍奏著音樂的話，那麽，他們一定是像電影中描述的，在乘客從頭等艙被帶領到甲板上時仍然繼續不斷的奏著。那個與虛構的男主角傑克住同一個下等艙的愛爾蘭人爬到上層甲板時甚至給了這樣一句評語：“現在我知道我到達頭等艙了，有音樂在演奏嘛。”這句話由一個下等艙的乘客說出來具有若幹諷刺性，但它卻是導演在爲提琴手們後來的一幕所作的重要伏筆，他真正要表達的意思是：“只有‘頭等’的音樂家才會在這種時候恪盡他門音樂的職守，繼續不斷的演奏。”我們古詩人的‘春蠶到死絲方盡，蠟炬成灰淚始乾’，說的莫不就是這種臻盡極致的情境了 卡梅隆把提琴手從演奏晚會音樂轉變成聖詩的過程處理得非常好，當船身傾斜到提琴手們不太能保持平衡的時候──也就是虛構的男女主角往船尾攀爬的時候，哈特利對其他的提琴手鞠了一個躬，說：“今晚我有很大的榮幸與你們一同演奏，現在，讓我們各去各的吧！”然而，就在他手下的提琴手轉身的時候，他站在原處，似乎在想“我沒處可去，只有等待與主相會了。”于是，他又拿起弓弦，從容地奏著那最能讓他預備見主面之心的歌，《更近我主》。聽到那天韻的升起，那幾個他剛剛告別過的提琴手也轉過身來，加入了他那最後的一首演奏曲，只是，他們的聽衆不再是人類，而是天使與創造宇宙天地的神了...
